The designer of the Aura Wood Chair Mikko Laakkonen was born in Espoo, Finland in 1974. He attended Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences where he studied furniture design and went on to receive a Masters from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. Laakkonen worked in design and architecture firms for several years before 2004 when he founded Studio Mikko Laakonen. His studio offers product design services for everyday items. Laakkonen’s designs have been displayed across Europe, the United States, Japan, and China in several exhibitions. He has received numerous national and international prizes such as the German Design Award in 2017, the Turkey Design Award in 2016, and the Young Designer of the Year Prize in 2009.
